Areas to Clean on the i4311

Cleaning Residue and Dust

Whenever performing any maintenance on the printer, you should also clean any adhesive residue or dust caused by the labels.

  1. Remove the battery, label and ink ribbon rolls from the printer.

  1. With safety glasses on, spray compressed air on any parts of the printer that have built-up residue.

  1. Use compressed air to spray all visible areas inside the printer to remove accumulated dust.

  1. Use a cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol to wipe any remaining dust from inside the printer.

  1. Wipe exterior cover and frame of printer for dirt and residue.

  1. Replace the ribbon and labels.

  1. Close all covers and install the battery.

Cleaning the Screen

  1. Lightly moisten a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol, or use a pre-moistened cloth suitable for cleaning a PC screen.

  1. Gently rub the damp cloth across the screen until all of the residue is removed.

Cleaning the Cutter Blade

  1. Remove the battery, label and ink ribbon rolls from the printer.

  1. Squeeze the two yellow cutter tabs to release the cutter blade.

  2. Clean the cutter blade using the cutter tool.
Note: You will not be able to access the entire cutter blade. If you believe there is something wrong with the blade, do not take apart the cutter assembly to access the blade. Doing so can potentially void the printer's warranty.

    1. If the cutting blade shows significant residue, use the cutter cleaning tool (B31-CCT) to gently scrape the residue off the cutting blade.

    2. Clean the cutting blade with the cleaning swab (PCK-6) until the residue is removed.

    1. Clean beneath the edges of the blade housing with moistened swabs. To avoid forcing residue deeper into the printer, motion the outer edge of the blade towards the center of the printer.
    2. Continue cleaning until no residue is visible and cleaning swabs to not become discolored.

  1. Close the cutting blade by pushing up on it until the cutter tabs snap into place.

  1. Once all residue has been cleaned from the blade, replace the battery and label materials.

Cleaning the Sensors

The label and cutter sensors are located inside the printer and may be covered with dust that results from cutting the labels. One sensor is located below the yellow supply guides, as shown in the photos below. The cutter sensor is located above the cutting blade and is visible only when the cutter is released.

  1. Remove the battery, label and ink ribbon rolls from the printer.

  1. Squeeze the two yellow cutter tabs to release the cutter; the cutter mechanism will slide down exposing the cutter sensor.

  1. Gently wipe the surface of the three sensors at the locations shown in the pictures below with the cleaning swab (PCK-6). The cutter sensor can be accessed by lowering the cutter. To lower the cutter, simultaneously squeeze both yellow tabs found on the left and right hand side of interior of the printer next to the scissors symbol.

  1. Once all residue has been cleaned from the sensors, reinstall the battery and label materials.

Cleaning the Printhead

  1. Remove the battery, label and ink ribbon rolls from the printer.

  1. Gently rub the cleaning swab (PCK-6) across the green and black area of the printhead.

Note: Do not rub the swab over the bronze-colored area of the printhead as this could cause a short circuit.

  1.  Once all residue has been cleaned from the printhead, reinstall the battery and label materials.
